Adorable Baby Girl & Her Newborn Photoshoot
Newborn & Family Photography Studio in Airdrie, Alberta, Proudly Serving Calgary and Beyond
Greetings everyone! I'm thrilled to showcase this delightful session with you. It marks the second occasion I've had the pleasure of capturing newborn photos for this wonderful family. Working with clients who not only connect deeply but also appreciate the significance of preserving these precious memories is truly a joy. I can't wait to share this heartwarming experience with you all!
Working with this adorable baby girl was an absolute delight! Her perfectly timed smiles added an extra dose of sweetness to our session, and we seamlessly navigated through a variety of beautiful setups. What made it even more special was that this wasn't just a debut photoshoot—it turned into a heartwarming family affair. Mom, Dad, the family doggo, big sis, and grandparents from both sides all joined in on the photoshoot fun. It truly was a beautiful and memorable session!
While I may sound like a bit of a broken record, I can't help but express genuine gratitude for my incredible return clients. Their loyalty means the world to me and serves as the ultimate compliment – there's truly nothing better! So, THANK YOU!
Over the years, I've noticed that with growing experience, my clientele has become increasingly devoted, and for that, my heart is brimming with joy and pride. Yes, I've encountered my fair share of mistakes and endured some tough lessons, but such is the nature of life, isn't it? It's an ongoing journey of learning, making errors, and finding the courage to try again. While it may not always be a walk in the park, these experiences contribute to brighter days when we step back, refocus, and give it another shot (yes, I snuck a bit of a photography pun in there... 😛).
Approaching my ninth year in business, I've had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of families and capturing thousands of beautiful memories for each one. This journey has been a profound learning experience, not just in photography but also in the nuances of running a business, fostering positive client relationships, and striking a healthy balance between family and work life. Because, let's be honest, navigating the realm of 'working from home' often feels like a subtle dance between the professional and personal, where the lines happily blur!
As you swoon over these adorable newborn pictures, I'm excited to take a moment to share with you... 👇👇👇
5 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started My Photography Business
1. The Power of Clear Communication
Wishing I Knew: The Art of Setting Healthy Boundaries for Happier Client Relationships
Open and genuine communication not only establishes the groundwork for a positive client experience but also fosters trust in the art of capturing precious moments. By being transparent about my process and letting my passion shine through, I aim to enhance the experience for both myself and my clients. Creating a space where we can all have fun and connect positive emotions to the photos captured on your special day is at the core of our relationship, and it all begins with effective communication. As the saying goes, communication is key!
2. Set Limits (And Stick ToThem!)
Wishing I Knew: The Importance of Creating Boundaries
This aligns closely with the first point, yet it's a key ingredient to maintaining my work-life balance that I believe deserves its emphasis. Through numerous experiences, I've come to understand the vital role that boundaries play in keeping relationships healthy, expectations realistic, and life well-balanced. Achieving harmony between work and family life became significantly more manageable when I implemented clear boundaries. The hardest part is holding to and enforcing these boundaries with both clients and family members, but it's important to understand boundaries create a sense of harmony, reduce stress, and ensure that both my business and personal life thrive without overwhelming either.
Choose the temporary discomfort of setting boundaries over the prolonged discomfort of neglecting them – for in the former, you empower yourself; in the latter, you surrender your peace.
3. Time is Your Most Precious Asset
Wishing I Knew: The Art of the Balancing Act
Even to this day, finding the right balance is a continuous journey that requires constant mindfulness. Navigating the delicate dance between managing a business and caring for my family presents an ongoing challenge. Effective time management isn't merely a skill; it's a survival tool (or, a 'thrival' tool, since life is about thriving and not just surviving!)
Don't get me wrong—I love what I do. However, it's no secret that the photography industry faces a significant burnout challenge, with the average photographer's career lasting between 3-5 years. I'd be dishonest if I didn't admit to feeling that occasional burnout and fatigue. When those feelings start to creep in, I recognize it's time to reassess my priorities and ensure a healthy work/life balance. It's all about the delicate dance of working hard and playing hard. While it can be challenging to step away when clients eagerly anticipate their images, I've learned that delivering exceptional results is best achieved when I'm in a healthy state of mind, body and soul.
Honestly, as I capture cherished moments for numerous families each year, I've come to appreciate the importance of creating my own precious memories. While I love my clients, I also recognize the significance of ensuring that, when I reflect on my life, it's not solely filled with the faces of other families. Balancing my passion for photography with the joy of making memories with my own loved ones is a priority close to my heart.
4. Nurture Your Creative Soul
Wishing I Knew: You're Not JUST A Photographer!
I used to feel guilty whenever I ventured beyond the realm of photography. Then, it dawned on me—I'm a creative soul with diverse interests that bring me immense joy. (Also, I'm a Gemini, and we are notorious for having a million different hobbies and projects on the go - haha!)
Amidst the hustle, I need to remind myself that it is crucial for me to not neglect my creative spirit. Juggling entrepreneurship and motherhood demands intentional self-care. Make it a point to schedule moments for relaxation, indulge in hobbies, and cherish quality time with my family. I know that it will make me a happier photographer, a happier mom, and bring a vibrant energy into both my work and family life.
5. Don't Be So Hard On Yourself
Wishing I Knew: The Gentle Art of Self-Encouragement
I am my own toughest critic, especially when juggling the demands of running a business and family life. I am still working hard on the art of self-compassion, which I think a lot of us can relate to. Understand that, like everyone else, you're navigating uncharted territories. Don't be too hard on yourself when things don't go as planned.
Celebrate your victories, no matter how small, and remember that growth often comes from kindness, not self-criticism.
Honestly, if you had told me nine years ago that Hocus Focus Photography would be at this point today, I'd likely have been a mix of terrified, shocked, and incredibly excited! The young lady who embarked on this journey back then has undergone significant reflection, growth, and transformation—both professionally and personally. While there are more points I could share, let's keep it to five for the sake of simplicity in this blog, haha!
Digging through my thoughts for this blog required a bit of introspection, and I realize that the most valuable insights I have now aren't necessarily the ones I would have anticipated nine years ago. Back then, I might have imagined future-me diving into lighting techniques, marketing strategies, and all those cool photographer hacks.
Yet, here I am, reflecting on the journey of lessons and experiences—both the highs and lows. If I could speak to that determined young version of myself, I'd simply say, "Take care of yourself first. There's only one you, and you only get one shot."
To all my readers, fellow photographers, clients, and parents alike—thank you for joining me on this journey through a stunning gallery, sprinkled with my late-night reflections. I hope that, in some way, you found inspiration within this blog. Wishing each of you abundant love, joy, and happiness in its truest sense! Always remember, take care of yourselves. Until next time. ❤️
