There is always a bit of a moment for me when I receive a lovely message from someone wanting some family portraits done, and then later finding out that they themselves are a talented photographer. Eek! (Can we say pressure?!) Maybe so. But in a quick moment I realized something - that if a photographer books another photographer, how great of a compliment is that? And my mini panic attack turned into an excited squeal - there's no need to feel self conscious about anything! It was time to celebrate and rock it!
Now... the day of the shoot was a bit of a mess. I had beautiful sessions ALL morning and afternoon. The sun was shining, the weather was gorgeous, and I was heading over to my last shoot of the day (this lovely family). And, as Calgary weather would have it, big black clouds loomed in the distance. And as I got closer, I saw the tell-tale sheets of water pouring from the sky. The lightning was crackling, the wind was blowing! And in that moment I figured, "That's it, we will have to reschedule." However, being a mum of 3 myself, I understand the pain in the neck it can be to get everybody done up and out the door - so this left me feeling guilty, as well. So we discussed the matter and decided to wait but 20 minutes. Admittedly, it took a little bit of convincing on my end because that storm did not look like it was going to end within a few hours, nevermind a few minutes; my foot was soon found in my mouth.
And within those 20 minutes, the clouds passed and the sun was shining and just LOOK at what a beautiful evening it ended up being for an absolutely stunning family shoot. I am SO GLAD we decided to wait those 20 minutes and stick with the session that evening. You wouldn't even know that there had been a storm just prior to our session.
When was the last time you had your family photos done? I firmly believe portrait photography is one of THE most valuable things you could possibly have. They are memories for generations to come!
