Oaklynn's First Birthday Cake Smash Session

I love the smell of cake in the morning! 

Cake Smashes are always a change of pace when it comes to a photo shoot. By the time our babies turn 1, they've transformed from a helpless little bundle into a mobile, loud, drooling tornado of curiosity and adventure. And all of this happens within that first year of life! It blows my mind every time I think about it. 

Sweet baby Oaklynn. I could hardly believe how quickly her birthday snuck up on me! I still remember her newborn session. In fact, every time I see a little decorative pumpkin I think of the time I used one for her newborn session (which I brought out again to use for her Cake Smash for a size comparison!)

Cake Smashes are fast-paced and lots of fun. There is cake, there is singing, there is dancing, and there are bubble baths! Sometimes there is crying, and we seize to capture those moments as well (because let's face it. It's their party and they'll cry if they want to.) 

I loved the cute pumpkin theme we did for Oaklynn's cake smash. Mom's special request was to include a rainbow somewhere in the set to acknowledge her rainbow baby, hence the little rainbow on the cake. I love incorporating those special bits into these sessions. 

Oaklynn, you are such a sweet little girl. I love that I got to see you as a happy one-year-old. I love your toothy little smile and those big brown eyes of yours. Your family is always such a pleasure to have in the studio and I can't wait to have you all again soon.
