Gia's Cake Smash Session  • First Birthday Photoshoot

Just over a year ago, I met this beautiful couple for their summer maternity session, and later had the great honour of capturing their beautiful baby girl's newborn portraits, as well!

As most of us quickly learn as new parents, that first year flew by and it wasn't long before little miss Gia was back in my studio for her grand cake smash session to celebrate her first birthday. 

What a beautiful little girl she is growing into, and such a happy and spunky little one! Normally we crank up the Baby Shark and Cocomelon tunes. But, for this little Missy, she was happier rocking out to some bumpin' rap tunes and flashing us those big, cakey grins in between big bites of cake. 

Mom wanted something simple and timeless, with a hint of "vintage". A lot of the examples for inspiration we found were more boho and not exactly the style that Mom was going for, so I did some hunting and found the perfect backdrop and figured that for this cake smash, less would definitely be more. I love cake smashes like this, because they look so "clean" (although a bit of an oxymoron when it comes to cake smashes, ha!) and the focus then lies solely on baby and their first experience having cake all to themselves! 

I absolutely love how this gorgeous gallery turned out. Gia had a blast and I had a BIG mess to clean up once she was all done! The mark of a great cake smash and a happy little birthday girl! 

We did grab some family photos before all the mess ensued upon the studio, which I think turned out absolutely lovely. What a photogenic bunch!

It's such a great joy to watch these little ones grow. It's funny how a slow and laid back newborn session turns into a fast-paced, loud and messy cake smash session a year later! I hope to see this family over the years as Gia continues to grow into a beautiful little girl. I love working with this family so much and always look forward to our sessions.
