Heartwarming Surrogate Maternity Session at Carburn Park • Calgary Maternity Photographer

Last spring, I had the honour of capturing a unique and heartwarming maternity session at Carburn Park in Calgary, Alberta. The session celebrated a family eagerly awaiting the arrival of their fourth baby, carried by a very special surrogate: a long-time friend!

Surrogacy is a journey filled with love, trust, and sacrifice, and this story was no exception. The bond between Mom & Dad and their dear friend was so apparent and evident throughout the session! It was clear that this wasn't just about bringing a baby into the world--it was a truly beautiful friendship and an extraordinary gift of love. 

To symbolize the beauty of surrogacy, kangaroos were used as a recurring theme throughout the session. Kangaroos, with their pouches, are a beautiful metaphor--carrying and nurturing life for another. With cute little stuffed animals as a thoughtful little detail, this symbolism brought a creative and adorable touch to an already emotional session.

The session was shot during golden hour, on one of the first warm evenings of the year. Even though the foliage was sparse and the landscape mostly brown, the golden hues of the sunset amplified the beauty of the evening with this wonderful bunch, creating a soft, warm glow that perfectly reflected the heartfelt emotions of the day. The result with these stunning images matched everyone's glowing expressions perfectly!

Adding further meaningfulness and support to the session, the surrogate couple took a moment to step into the frame together to mark this beautiful journey that both embarked on together. Their love that makes a surrogacy journey like this possible was truly magical to witness, with the shared pride and excitement of everyone involved! It was truly, breathtakingly beautiful. 

This session was such a beautiful reminder of how families are built in many beautiful and unique ways. Watching the joy, gratitude and connection between these lifelong friends was truly inspiring! I loved laughing with them, and learning about their relationship. I could hear the excitement in their voices, and I was so excited to meet the beautiful baby boy who was well on his way! 

I'm so grateful to have been part of this incredible story and to meet such amazing people along the way. This session is certainly one for the books (or album, should I say!) and is one that I'll cherish forever. The laughter and the love made it all so memorable. 

It was such a privilege to document this beautiful chapter in their lives, and I couldn't be happier to have been the one to capture and preserve their excitement and love for the journey ahead!
