Thunderstorm Cake Smash • Throwing A Thunderous Party!

Hocus Focus Photography specializes in Maternity, Baby & Family Photography. We serve families in and around the Calgary area, and our specially designed studio is located in Airdrie, Alberta.

Well, it's officially 2024 and I still have so many sessions I have yet to share from 2023! It's been a whirlwind adventure of a year that has kept me busy and on a constant run. As we settle into the New Year, my goal is to catch you all up on what's been going on here at the studio and share the beautiful sessions from 2023. It's a perfect way to reflect on the past year and get excited for the next!

These familiar faces have been clients for quite some time now, and I always look forward to our sessions. This particular photo shoot was a big first birthday celebration! 

We started out with some family portraits before heading into the cake smash session and getting messy. This is a great opportunity to capture beautiful family shots, and also gives the little ones a chance to get used to their surroundings, the camera, the flash, and to me before we introduce the cake. 

The theme of this cake smash? Thunderstorm! 

I have never had this theme before, but I LOVE thunderstorms (the louder the better!) and I was excited to set up the backdrop for this special smash session. I love how it turned out! 

Of course, the little star of the show pulled everything together. She had us all 'thundering' with laughter! It certainly didn't take her long to dive in and make a big mess with her cakey treat. I love all of the adorable expressions in this galley.

Things got progressively messier as the session continued. I love the little black hand-prints on the floor, not to mention the handprint stamped to her forehead, as well! 😂

Black icing certainly seems to make a bigger mess of things. Luckily I was able to wash it off fairly easily, and I like how you can see just how big of a mess the baby made with her cake. It definitely adds to the effect! 🤭

With all of that black icing, a bath was certainly necessary! After getting a bunch of smashing practice in with the cake, splashing in the tub came easy! 

This gallery had me bursting out with laughter as I sifted through the photos. From hilarious shots to precious expressions, this collection of photos has it all! I am so happy with the outcome. 

A special thank you to this family for allowing me to continually capture their precious milestones. I genuinely love working with them - there's never a shortage of laughter or sarcasm 😂 My heart is full of love for this bunch! ❤️
