First Birthday Cake Smash | Calgary Photography Studio

First birthdays are so much fun! It's a time to not only celebrates baby's FIRST BIRTHDAY, but the whole year of "firsts" that the whole family has gone through.

A lot of my newborn photography clients come back for cake smashes. There are also lots of families who decide to go all out with a beautiful photography experience for a cake smash if they didn't have newborn photos done.

Getting all messy in cake is one of the cutest and fun ways to celebrate your baby's birthday. Everything is provided for a cake smash session at Hocus Focus Photography, which means an easy experience that is full of laughs, cake, and adorable moments.

Each baby reacts so differently to their cake smash. Little Clarke couldn't wait to dive right in! She shared so many BIG grins and smiles, and she was absolutely beautiful. I love her big blue eyes!

It was a wonderful afternoon getting all cakey and messy. We all had a blast and the photos show off just how much fun Clarke had during her cake smash. What beautiful moments to cherish and get a good laugh over time and again for years to come.

We Made It!

Congrats to the parents who make it through that first year - that is definitely something to celebrate! I love taking a moment to capture some adorable family portraits before things turn into a sticky, sweet mess.

Action in 3...2...1...

Everything is always done at baby's pace. I love getting pictures of baby before the big cake smash. This gives them time to get used to the camera, and builds up the anticipation for the moment the cake enters the scene!

Being Efficient

Clarke was a diver! Skip the use of hands altogether and just go for it! I like her style ;)

Sweeter Than Cake

Babies love feeling the texture of the cake. They do enjoy a bite or two, but most of the time it's all about feeling the texture of the cake and exploring!

Thighs for Days

I love a set of yummy, cakey thighs. Clarke was as happy as can be and found the entire situation to be as hilarious as the rest of us. She is such a ham!

Scrubba-Dub-Dub

Things get pretty sticky during a cake smash, so we always wrap up with a bubble bath. This makes for more adorable photos with lots of splashing, and results in a clean baby to go home and work off that sugar!

I am so passionate about capturing those early stages in life for families to enjoy over and over again. These moments are truly so precious, and they happen fast. You blink, and the moment is gone. Just think about how quickly that first year of your baby's life flies by. I love making a big deal about those milestones for my clients, and the beautiful keepsakes that they can keep for themselves when they want to feel nostalgic, and show off their pride and joy!

I am so thankful that I was able to celebrate Clarke's birthday with her and her parents. Her session was SO much fun, and I hope you all enjoyed her big happy smiles as much as I did. :)
